Chapter Four; "A Moment Of Clarity," Affronted by the accusation, Allie opened her mouth to claim anything other than what had been said. Her mindset shifting, she stared down at her swallow stomach, the clenching was agonizing. She returned her gaze to him wordlessly, unable to fathom the situation entirely. "It's true isn't it?" he demanded, yelling a lot louder than he should have, his voice croaking. Allie plucked up the courage to speak, crossing her arms protectively across her chest. "I-It's true - B-But H-how'd you...?" she stammered aversly, instead of the usual excited gleam was a brimming of tears at the edges of her abundant caramel eyes. She was more than aware that rumors spread like wildfire, engulfing everything in it's narrow minded path but needless to say she was rather taken aback by how fast this particular 'rumor' had spread and more or less who'd started it in the first place."How does this concern you - Sean, you aren't the father." she let her tears flow unabashedly, a wavering smile on her face. "Your sure about that?" he hissed loudly, half- swallowed sibilants laced with anger. Allie gulped hard, faltering a bit as she outstretched her hand to brush away the tears. "I've never been so sure of anything in my life." "You know what you need? A reality check." he snapped furiously to her, his words slightly slurred. "You warned me about people like yourself. You're a hypocrite - and luckily enough for you, I don't associate with hypocrites. You claim to be raised with strong morals that no one could waver. Yet look at you now. Do you think your father would be proud of you?" he lowered his voice and hissed under his breath, willing himself to keep calm as he promptly turned on his heal, preparing to disperse. Allie stumbled a step back to regain her balance as if the words had been a painful slap. The statement could be compared to being plunged with a tiny dagger, a single blow to the heart. One that would stay with her for quite sometime. That's when Allie sucked in a breath, her mouth felt dry, making each breath a tad harder to draw than the last. The statement robbing her of her thin facade of calm. She felt stuck, rooted to the spot unable to move a muscle. She peered over her shoulder, her now flaring gaze residing intently on him. "Don't you dare bring my father into this, Sean." she snapped harshly all she could manage, her porcelain skin luminescent and ghostly in the dim florescent light of the library. "And don't you dare talk about things you don't know the first thing about." she hissed, feeling the blood thrumming her temples. Her heart constricted painfully a notch tighter with abject guilt at the sight of him advancing on her. Still agonized by the conversations turn. "I don't want you to be in this child's life anymore than I want you in my own." she whispered, as if to say, preemptively, goodbye. She felt her tears fall silently down her cheeks, kissed by the muggy air, and felt the heart-wrenching sobs wrack her body.
